I'm really confused still by countries abroad that have double study tracks. I'm solely studying Political Science (Comparative Politics specialisation). Though I guess I did a multidisciplinairy minor in history / philosophy / religion sciences, it wouldn't have been mandatory to do something in a different study field. At least that's how it works in The Netherlands. But I know that even as close as Germany, countries usually have a kind of dual study track.

Well, I figure that with a master's degree and fluence in Japanese, you'd be a much wanted employee for Japanese businesses! What are you studying?

Yep agreed @ Arise. I hope the darker tone works out. The Tales series shouldn't be afraid to change some things every now and then. Would make them less predictable.

Wow, that's cool. I wish I could be fluent in Japanese. I actually tried to learn the language for quite some time, but whilst living in Japan I still had the idea that my Japanese wasn't improving much anymore so I kinda gave up on it. My last Japanese language lessons have been early January this year in Japan and since I'm back home I haven't been doing any Japanese anymore. Except for reading one chapter of Yotsuba or so.

Tales of Vs. is actually pretty short I think, it's also not really a JRPG. I bought it for like 80 yen or so just to try it out, but the gameplay itself is pretty boring and I can't understand the story since it's in Japanese, so I've played it for only 30 minutes.

I beat Tales of Vesperia yesterday, which for years has been the game that I was looking forward to playing the most. I have to say that I really enjoyed the game, but still it wasn't as good as I hoped it to be. I guess I'd rank it as the 4th or 5th best that I've played, certainly behind Graces and maybe behind Hearts too.

Did you see the first trailer for Tales of Arise? It looks a lot darker and more serious than most Tales games. I'm really pleasently surprised. Can't wait to play it next year. Just wondering if we'll see an early or late 2020 release.

Wow, you've played a lot of Tales games! A couple of them have only ever been released in Japan. Did you emulate them with a fan translation?

Good to see that our number 1 is the same, Tales of the Abyss! Great game. It happened to be my first Tales too. Why didn't you like Hearts, though? Which version did you play? I really liked Hearts R on the Vita to be honest.

Oh yeah, I've also briefly played Tales of Vs. (the Japanese version) but the Smash-style combat didn't really grab me.

First off I agree with you! Can't really go wrong with any Tales game at all. My favourites, hm... I won't count Tales of Vesperia just yet, since I'm only a little over halfway through. Other than that:

Something like this I guess. I didn't really like the Symphonia duology. Berseria, Xillia 2 and Zesteria are 'just okay' (though Xillia 2 might have the best battle system in the series). Graces f and Hearts R I enjoyed very much and Xillia and Abyss are tied for best game in the series for me.

Also Eternia (/Destiny 2) and Phantasia I own, but still need to play.

What are your other favourites in the series?

Thank you! I'm really enjoying it. I've played almost all of the (at least the major/recent) Tales games and I've never had the chance to play Vesperia since it only released on the 360 in Europe (I don't own a 360).

I was in a much worse position wise a few years ago until my gaming PC died, immediately discounted around 250 unplayed Steam games. Was a shame but somewhat of a release from constantly buying games in sales and never getting time enough to play them. I try to keep my purchases to a minimum or just keep on top of what I have. Never enough time to play what meagre stuff I have right now.
