Glad you checked it out, I enjoyed Batman Returns NES also! I remember feeling that enemies can take a bit too much abuse, which draws the game out somewhat. Lucky that you got the NES cart reseated while you were playing, I never have any luck trying that. You even got the happy penguin ending... not sure I could be arsed to get a better ending. I saw you mentioned TMNT 3 NES, that's probably gotta be my fave beat 'em up on the NES. Recommend!

Welcome to my backlog! Please be aware that I use a 4-star rating scale and a 4-star rating is the highest i'll give out. It would probably be safe to presume that if I expanded to a 5-star rating scale (which i consider inferior) that almost all of my 4's would become 5's. I've recently rewritten my explanation for my 4-star scale, which you can read below:

1 STAR -

Bottom - Abjectly terrible

Top - Likeable but incompetent

A one-star rating is generally - as one might expect - for games that I consider bad, unpleasant, or otherwise poorly made. Not everything in one-star is in there because of an extreme, and there's even a few games in there that I'm somewhat fond of. An otherwise highly produced game can end up in there if I find it to be too manipulative, turgid, or lengthy. You'll find a bevy of modern games in these ranks because I find them unfocused and engineered to waste time over providing high quality entertainment.

2 STAR -

Bottom - Saved from one-star by a saving grace or two (e.g. very quality presentation)

Top - Nearly good or having very good qualities but held back by poor design choices

A two-star rating is generally for games that I consider decent, middling, or leaning toward bad. It contains a diverse range of games - some of which I loved certain things about but feel as though they fell short, others I potentially hated but found myself highly affectionate toward certain elements of. A two-star rating absolutely does not mean that a game is bad - more frequently, it means I think it means it was just unexceptional or held back.

Bottom - Good, but with a few notable complaints

Top - Truly great but not quite excellent

The three-star rating is always a good mark! Though there are a few 3-starred games I will go into a negative rant about, it's always because I feel something was holding it back from an upper echelon of greatness. For a game to get a three-star rating, I'll need to be able to say it was at least good before beginning my caveats with it.

Bottom - Something I greatly and sincerely love despite its potentially obvious flaws

Top - What I consider among the finest games ever made

A four-star game is something I consider excellent without any two ways around it. Though a few 4-star games may hold a slightly tenuous position because I love them a bit more for their presentation than anything else (Tail Concerto, I am looking at you), I do always love them in each and every instance. Very few games make it here, and every year or so I'll cull one or two titles that I feel don't quite meet the par of the rest in my affection toward them.

5 STAR

Unused, dumb-dumb! Can't you read? This isn't some "reserved only for a game that meets true perfection" category (which I consider to be a stupid-as-hell thing to do), it's strictly just not used. If I expanded to a five-star system, it's likely that almost every four-star would be bumped up while games in the two and three-star categories would expand upward a bit (along with the occasional one-star scooting up to two).

I spend a very significant amount of time considerign my personal ratings, and this page is meant to be a useful resource as to see what I thought of a game at the time I played it. Some games that have remained without a replay for years may be unrated! I care deeply about consistent re-evaluation of what I love more than I do playing what doesn't interest me (hence my large backlog), even though I do often seek to expand my frame of reference.

I own every game listed unless its ownership is otherwise marked to indicate that I do not. I play almost exclusively on original hardware with exceptions almost only when I need to grab nice-looking screenshots.

I only respect other honest players. Don't savestate & lie about it like an absolute parasite.
