Sounds like Princess Peach: Showtime! has a bit of a Kirby and the Forgotten Land structure going on here short singleplayer story with a good chunk of end game!

I also am only picking up one more announced game this year (SMTV2) and also Episode Aigis, so yeah ... it will be my "best game released in 2024" GOAT most likely!

I do agree that bumping up the difficulty wouldn't have done much. Both the joy and curse of strategy games is once you learn the game, you can break it wide open regardless of difficulty. I can challenge myself the next time with a self-imposed challenge, but at the end of the day I still have the knowledge of how to break armored units. Tactical was comfortable and required tweaking once in a while and that's fine.

In the end, I built 5 units that I felt were solid (with 3 mega bangers and 2 great ones) and one that was pretty meh. But I did it! What a delight, and I played on Tactical throughout. I'll surely return to it again and again.
