Good luck on Bomberman Fantasy Race! It's a bit rough around the edges, and it does require some grinding to get the better mounts and courses, but the concept alone and the Bomberman characters are charming enough.

Time flies, eh? I just dusted off my Saturn myself, recently. Had a lot of fun playing some games I missed out on, like Galactic Attack and Macross. Saturn Bomberman is good fun, too.

I checked out the article! That was some really high quality stuff. I'm familiar with Ufouria: The Saga, since I played the Wii VC version all the way through a couple years ago. I've always been curious how the games in the franchise differ from that, since I at least know they're a lot different. I must've forgotten is was a puzzle game. I'm absolutely terrible at puzzle games. I was playing Baku Baku Animal on my Saturn recently, and while it is a fun game, I couldn't get too far. I doubt I'd last long in any of the Hebereke puzzlers, but I'm still curious about them after reading this.

I went and gave Enjoy Edition a wishlist! That's awesome they brought it back. I know there's also a Ufouria 2 that recently came out. Have you seen anything on that yet? The art style is beautiful.

Hope you enjoyed seeing The Mummy on the big screen. It's really cool to see old classics coming back to theaters like that. A coworker of mine let me know the original Alien is also playing this week. I would have gone to see that if I didn't already have a ticket to see Spirited Away lol. I'm excited for that. Just last month they had End of Evangelion in theaters, and that was incredible to experience that way.

Eh, don't worry about it; the only reason I ever remember it is people wishing me a happy anniversary. This also might be the first time I spent it actually playing games. Sonic games, even!

I have to admit that while I've seen some of the movies (I don't even remember which ones), a lot of the references went over my head; I don't think I've seen the original Jurassic Park in its entirety since it was new. My lady's a big fan, and I'm sure we have them all on some form of home video, because I've seen her watching them, but I'm not really a big movie person. That said, I'd never noticed that the circle in the logo is sometimes red and sometimes yellow; I've never even been to Europe, but somehow, the yellow circle just looks wrong to me.

I haven't spent a ton of time with any of the Jurassic Park games, but from what you're describing, it sounds like it's one of Ocean's better games, since they weren't exactly known for stellar quality. They do occasionally have absolutely phenomenal music - though I'm partial to Dean Evans over Jonathan Dunn - which are usually infuriatingly good for the games that accompany them, SNES Waterworld being a good example.

One other thing I'd like to say is that to me, replay value just means the game is good enough to play again. I know it's typically used to mean branching paths, multiple endings, and the like, but I've played and replayed TONS of games that don't have any wiggle room as to how you complete them, not to mention that no matter how many times I play a Mega Man, I almost always go with the same order. To me, something with low replay value is either something that isn't good or something that's just so incredibly long that it's daunting to even think about playing through it again. Just food for thought.

I've been watching you and I am very impressed. I tried doing what you're doing now years ago and you've done more than I did. Once I reached Heaven can wait, I called it quits, and 3D Lemmings? Holy hell.

Naturally, the PlayStation versions of Lemmings and 3D Lemmings with the mouse are the way to go.

I finally read your Saturnday articles! All in all, a cool write-up as always. Sorry I've been so delayed. I like the idea of having a Christmas-themed Saturn marathon. Bubble Symphony is an interesting game; I should get around to playing that series at some point. I, too, miss the old Konami logo... It always makes me think of this. [Link] That MSX compilation is great! I love that it even has some of Konami's shoot 'em ups on there. The scrolling wasn't the best, but those ports were still kind of charming in a way. Tempo is such a bizarre game, haha. I love the randomness of it. Honestly, it's probably my favorite platformer in general on the Saturn. I don't think I ever made the connection that the developer also worked on the Bonk series, so that's neat. I can totally see that. I played the first Bonk and it has kind of a similar vibe about it. I also have to play Tengai Makyou Zero, someday.

Silhouette Mirage is such a pretty-looking game. I've always wanted to get into that one on Saturn!

Reading your Triple Deluxe article now. Baku Baku Animal is a such a strange-looking game; it reminds me of something Kenji Eno would have made on the 3DO, back in the day. The weird creepy factor you describe almost makes me want to play it, or at least watch it lol. That early 3D period was truly something else. It's cool seeing more Hebereke, too; I only played Ufouria: The Saga as it was released on the Wii Virtual Console, so that's all I'm personally familiar with. (great game, by the way) SteamGear Mash looks right up my alley. Glad you enjoyed that one.

I read your Solar Eclipse article, too! Wow, was that a throwback. I haven't seen Crash 'n Burn or Total Eclipse in a long time. I played both in 2017 when I owned my first 3DO. I never did get around to playing Total Eclipse's sequel, though. I like the '90s aesthetic both of these games have. Also gotta love those old FMV games that used actual actors for cutscenes. I can imagine Solar Eclipse plays way better in comparison to Total Eclipse, as many 3DO games often times felt like you were playing a slideshow with how bad the framerate was. The music definitely seems decent, too; I liked that Tethys track. I appreciate the fact that you briefly mentioned the SNES game HyperZone. Such a good little rail-shooter.

Some of those Solar Eclipse secret levels look absolutely trippy, and I love that. Yeah, this is a game I could see myself enjoying. I always love it when they hide cool stuff like that behind input codes. Awesome stuff! Pandemonium is another one I have to check out, for sure.

Today's my birthday!! I turn 32!

Cute sometimes, but not little... sort of. He's the size of our old Maine Coone, but he was supposed to be 30-40 pounds; we wanted a bean bag chair that hops, and we wound up with a big rock that has long ears. That said, it's kinda funny how his ears never grew; when we got him he would almost fit in the palm of your hand, but his ears were still that big; almost longer than his own body. I guess it's good that he didn't get that big, since we have to give him baths now and again, and trying to keep a 40-pound rabbit in a bath tub would be almost impossible; 10 is hard enough, though he doesn't really mind the water. He didn't even scream last time!

I don't even understand it: the lore just rummages around in Tolkein's attic, like any other generic fantasy thing, but the decor, the character portraits, the color palettes; there's just something really enchanting about it. The music is great, too; Kemco's usual sound on the SNES, but with a rock edge to it; Phantom Hill is probably my favorite, but I also love all the ones you mentioned. Oh, and Voloh; Voloh might be a close second to Phantom Hill for how it's so simultaneously grave and outright mystical. Speaking of which, when we'd take the train out to Chicago, I used to see a train station that reminded me a lot of the church in Poper, and I've been waiting for someone, ANYONE, who might be interested in hearing that. Never got the name of the town, unfortunately, but I'd guess it's somewhere near Maryland, maybe? It's somewhere on Amtrack's route from Philadelphia to Chicago, but I don't think it's as far west as Indiana or Illinois. Anyway, Lagoon is one of those games I've been mentally accruing for someday checking out what the Sharp X68000 has to offer, and apparently, that version is a bit different, including the ability to hold your sword out and charge enemies, similar to the old Ys games, but not as obtuse. Etoile Princesse is another, since its decor reminded me a lot of the castles in Lagoon.

Dezaemon; that's the game I was trying to think of! The SNES Dezaemon had Daioh Gale, which I remember being really good, and that's partially how I found out about it. It was pretty good for creating games, too, since it had mouse support. The only thing I remember about Biometal (other than that it always makes me think of the Mega Man ZX games) is that one of the songs was that song they used for the commercial for EVERY SINGLE SPORTS MOVIE EVER RELEASED IN THE '90s; you'd be blasting aliens while thinking about... iunno... Air Bud. There was another one that was everywhere in the '90s, too... was it Psykosonik's Silicon Jesus? I always get that one mixed up with Welcome to my Mind, for some reason. It sure wasn't Shock on the Wire, I know that; I think the only game that featured that was X-Kaliber 2097.

I'm pretty bad at Dungeon Crawlers, because I don't actually see in 3 dimensions, so games like that leave me really disoriented; I love the Wizardry games, but I can't actually play them. Hell, even games like Duke Nukem 3D have me pretty lost; I couldn't even find the exit to the FIRST MAP in Shadow Warrior, and that was after about an hour of wandering around. Shining in the Darkness and Arcana are among the very few examples of games in the genre that I could handle and did enjoy. As for the similarities between the two, I wouldn't say they were very strong; Shining in the Darkness has everything in a single dungeon, for one thing, and it has a lot more tricks, like spinning tiles and enemies that arise from the environment, whereas Arcana is a lot more basic in its design. Simply put, I hadn't even guessed that one might have influenced the other until you'd said something.

I'm getting an ODE for my Saturn some time down the line when my new Saturn's laser dies, because sad as it is, those thing's days are numbered. Until then though, I'm going to use discs on it. There are a few more games I wouldn't mind going through (RE1 again, perhaps Legend of Oasis, maybe Croc? Maybe Warcraft 2? Then I'd like to finish Grandia, and maybe start the Saturn SOTN)

Is Shining the Holy Ark better than Shining Wisdom? I kind of hated how the game made you dash over crumbling pits and avoid enemies at the same time, and you had to do it ALL again if you fell down.
