I don't have a problem with the Kazooie final boss fight itself really (though I dislike the beak bombing segment), but in phase 2 (where you shoot eggs at her), her fireballs have a rather large chance to knock you off the edge of the arena when you're required to be close to the edge to hit her. If there's another way to avoid this, do tell me, because going through Kazooie randomizers is a good time, and this is the only thing preventing me from finishing my first one. Ironically, I seem to recall that exact part preventing me from beating the game as a kid, shooting the eggs in the statues (though I think it was the normal Jinjo statues instead of the Jinjonator. Then again, who knows, it's been over 25 years)

Actually, that's not really the cause. It runs bad IN SPIRAL MOUNTAIN. I've heard stories of Nintendo making Rare put in some DRM because it was the end of the N64's life and people were pirating carts, but I don't know how true that is. Wouldn't surprise me, though, given how stupidly anti-piracy they and their culty fans are. You know, even though Nintendo uses other people's ROMs and just puts those on their Virtual Consoles. Oh yeah, and how they can't even get emulation of their own games right. Kirby 64 and Paper Mario had crashes, and despite OoT being 'fixed', that switch in the Forest Temple that drains the well deactivates as soon as I step off of it, which it is not supposed to do.

Well, talking about Grunty's Revenge made me want to boot it up again on the SNES Classic, and...I'm almost at 100% after a collective 3-4 hours or so. Given, some of the remaining Jiggies look incredibly annoying with their strict time limits and dumb minigames, so I don't know if I'll get 100%, but beating it should be good enough.


There's a "tag anywhere" hack for DK64, but that's hardly that game's only problem. I'd gladly recollect stuff if broken and cheap minigames weren't so goddamn plentiful and made up over half of Golden Bananas.

Tooie is awful to play on N64, it runs so badly. I tried watching an LP of the game recently, and the first two eps were on N64, the incredibly choppy framerate really did not make me feel good. Luckily they also thought so and switched to 360.

I somehow stomached the N64 version up to...I dunno, fairly far in, maybe right before the final boss.

Like 23 years later, I replayed it on Xbox and finally beat it. I think I prefer Kazooie, but I like Tooie's final boss better because you can't get knocked off through no fault of your own and have to redo the entire fight.

I have never beaten the GBA game, but I think I did get to the final boss on a real GBA. I never got terribly far in Nuts and Bolts, the shift in gameplay really rubbed me the wrong way. Also, I'm still pissed off by that one trailer that showed a fancy shiny Spiral Mountain and acted like it was another platformer.

Never touched Banjo Pilot.

I'd easily replay Tooie over ever touching Donkey Kong 64 again, though.

How about Dragon Quest Builders 2, eh?

That game got me feelin' more than I expected out of a Minecraft-like thingy. It's bizarre how consistently well DQ's production teams make just like... solid games. Even if they aren't all mindblowing, they're just like, a fun time with good writing. The plot twist of this one ended up being considerably more intriguing than the obvious twist of "Malroth is gonna have to figure his whole cognitive dissonance out". Enjoyed the endgame thoroughly.

Fuck Skelcatraz though that was a slog.

Also, really wish the postgame... felt like it had any point. Why did I learn all that tower defense and now it serves zero function???

But yeah, sorry for the ramble - hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Can't wait for a Builders 3, especially since logic dictates it'll be an alternate universe of Dragon Quest III if the pattern sticks. That could be super interesting. Maybe utilizing the two overworlds mechanic of that game? Who can say...

I could probably fill all 2500 characters of this comment box with my thoughts and feelings on the game, but that would be a disservice to the spirit of this holiday season. So instead, I'll just say it was easily a 10/10 -- almost a religious experience for me. I'm very much so anticipating your 2024 recommendation if you have one.

If you're really interested, I hear Mr. Bones is one of those games with a Japanese version that's much easier (similar to Bug, also on Saturn, though the difference with that is the Japanese version has infinite continues. I've tried that version, and still think the levels are bullshit, mainly the weird depth perception). I've also heard that it has English audio, though I can't confirm this.

The LP I watched did not look fun at all, there was some dumb ice level that took them like an hour it felt like, and a few other irritating levels.

I did like the few music tracks I heard and the villain's design.

I just watched an LP of Mr Bones for Saturn the other day, and it reminded of a lot of Neverdead.

I was always a bit curious about Neverdead, but hearing it was riddled with bugs made me not care anymore. Also, now having watched Mr Bones, that style of gameplay would probably get frustrating fast.

It's 5 stars because it actually had me hooked until I've done everything (except the one achievement that requires another person to play with.) It's more than just a best of, it's arguably the best WarioWare release yet. You like content and collectibles? They've got you covered.

I say, better grab it now before collectors start eyeing it like they do with Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn.

I very much do like the first three Dragon Quest games. Not as much as I like IV, but they're good games.

It's true, with so many post-PS2 RPGs constantly cramming and stuffing as much content into the games as they can (and let's not forget the long cutscenes and padding), an old RPG like Dragon Warrior IV can be a nice breakaway. Sure, you sometimes feel you have to have a guide on you at all times, but they can be nice.

Already finished WarioWare Move It huh? I hope you rented it from Blockbuster.

Wow, it sure does look awesome. I never got to experience the original Platinum, but Pearl was my first mainline Pokémon as a kid. The disappointment I had in these indefinitive versions of Gen 4 coming out after Legends: Arceus seriously hit me with nostalgia I didn't even know I had, was palpable.

I KNOW emulation is an option, and I can definitely probably run it, but the real deal in my hands feels like a necessity for my enjoyment. I've run into this same dilemma recently when wanting to mod Breath of the Wild (for fun) and Pokémon Violet (so it actually runs decently at all), and the potential of Nintendo banning me from the eShop and other online services is just too terrifying for me...
