I don't even need to finish it to tell you I'm gonna love it. In the best way possible, it's an Etrian Odyssey clone, at least in all the areas except mapmaking. Mapmaking is done all automatically, but the way character and story progression work are basically exactly the same.

I loved the hell out of Refrain, and that one goes on sale for 17 all the time. If you're on the fence, just grab Refrain for cheap.

Zoth, A Hat in Time was so charming. Thank you for the recommendation! It was the perfect game to boot up whenever I wanted a "brain off" kind of game, and I mean that in the best way possible. In a year stuffed to the gills with incredible JRPGs both old and new, it stood as an experience that was just pure, simple fun that I am looking forward to coming back to once I nab the DLC.

I'm looking forward to another great year of releases, and hopefully some conversations about Utawarerumono as I dig into the series on Deck.

That'll definitely make it harder to progress and contribute to VN burnout. I'm powering through since I have the summer before my next semester starts but it's hard finding the time. Going from one VN to another, especially of this length, sounds really tough too.

I definitely understand the slow feel of the beginning. A lot to establish that's really important and fundamental to the later segments, but it's a slow burn of a VN. I'm enjoying it a lot too. A little over 1/4th of the ways through and it gets more interesting with time. My friend got me into it and we do reading sessions almost every night to keep making progress. This is also his 3rd time going through Umineko. It's his favorite VN.

What're your thoughts on Umineko after finishing Episode 1?

Yep. It's amazing what modders out there are able to do in GZDoom nowadays. They're fun for any length of time, whether in short bursts or long journeys.

It's a completely understandable conclusion to come to as a lot of things get mistranslated when it comes over to the west from Japan mixing up the L's and R's. I can see what you mean with the Kerboros example however (though thinking about it they could just be going for the greek name/pronunciation which is actually kerberos)

It seems like it takes place in modern day or something so it's probably connected as opposed to a direct sequel as El shaddai is way in the past form what I know. It probably didn't sell well considering how difficult to find any information on it; El Shaddai is the same as well though that got a cult following which resulted in a pc port. Clearly didn't put much work into localization then lol just a quick and dirty release

Even going off of descriptions of how demons and things work seems to come off a bit knockoffish of SMT but with some unique twists. It's art also just seems kinda generic from screenshots.

I'll say that could just be being used to SMT's designs as a lot of mythical beings have wildly varying appearances depending on how the artist in question wants to depict them or the interpretation of the creature. I can't speak on the whole translation obviously but the Lucifel name is just a carryover from El Shaddai which was an intentional choice rather than mis translation (He's still an archangel and working for god in El Shaddai)

I would hope so judging from what I know of El Shaddai which is also pretty great on a story level.
